This year, the legendary Honda Accord earned its record-breaking 39th win, continuing an unmatched streak of 27 consecutive years. Budget-Friendly Tips to Prepare for Severe Colorado Winter Weather

Preparing for Colorado's winter doesn't have to be complicated. Here are some straightforward ways to tackle common winter hazards and stay safe on the road.

Reduced Visibility

Snow, ice, and worn-out wipers can make it hard to see clearly while driving.

• How to Prepare: Use windshield washer fluid designed for freezing temperatures, replace your wipers if they streak or skip, and clear all windows, mirrors, and lights before every drive.

Dead Battery

Cold weather can drain battery power and make engines difficult to start.

• How to Prepare: Check your battery's health before winter begins, and try to park in a garage or covered area whenever possible. Always keep jumper cables handy in case of emergencies.

• If your car sits outside, its battery can lose up to 50% of its charge within a week. To avoid this, start your vehicle every few days and let it idle for 10-15 minutes to maintain the charge.

• Minimize short trips since they don't allow the alternator enough time to recharge the battery, and note that older vehicles may lose power faster.

 Slippery Roads

Ice, snow, and slush reduce tire traction, increasing the risk of skids.

• How to Prepare: Drive at slower speeds, maintain a safe following distance, and stay alert for hidden ice beneath the snow.

Frozen Locks and Doors

Locks and door seals can freeze in low temperatures, leaving you stranded.

• How to Prepare: Keep lock de-icer readily available, spray silicone on door seals to prevent sticking, and park in sunny areas when possible to reduce freezing.

Getting Stuck in Snow

Snowbanks or icy patches can trap even the most capable vehicles.

• How to Prepare: Carry a small snow shovel, sand or kitty litter for traction, and ensure your tires have sufficient tread depth to handle snowy conditions.
